Why Propose on a South Jersey Beach?

Best Beaches to Propose on

If you are excited about a beach proposal, but unsure which beach to do it on, we got you covered! We have helped plan surprise proposals on the beaches of Cape May, Stone Harbor, Avalon, Ocean City, Brigantine, Margate, and several others along the Jersey Shore over the past 16 years.

Every beach has something special, but you can’t go wrong with Cape May for the nature and the beautiful lighthouse in the background. We also love Brigantine as it is a bit quieter and can feel more intimate. Stone Harbor and Avalon are great too because many couples have fond memories of vacations here or dates they took together along the beach or in the town. Regardless of the beach you choose, that location will become special to you for the rest of your life.

Planning a Surprise Proposal? We'll Help You Get It Right

Keeping a proposal a surprise takes planning, especially when you want a photographer there to capture it. We work with you ahead of time to coordinate the location, timing, and plan for capturing the moment without your significant other suspecting a thing.

We have a few tricks up our sleeves to keep the surprise intact. Dan might blend in with beachgoers, relaxing in a beach chair with a book or sitting under an umbrella, or we can arrange a photo session that starts out looking like a completely different occasion. When you drop to one knee, we’ll be ready to capture the reaction, the excitement, and the moment she says yes.

How We Plan Your Proposal Photography Session

  • Choosing the location: Find the right beach and spot for your proposal based on your vision, privacy preferences, and time of day.
  • Coordinating the surprise: Plan where Dan will be positioned and how we’ll capture the moment without giving anything away.
  • Timing the proposal: Work around natural lighting, tides, and weather to create the perfect backdrop.
  • Capturing the celebration: Photograph the reaction, ring reveal, first kiss, and a series of engagement portraits after she says yes.

We’ve designed our approach to make the experience feel natural and stress-free. She gets the surprise of a lifetime, and you both get to relive the moment through photographs that capture how it really happened.

Surprise Proposal FAQs

How much does proposal photography cost?

Our sessions start at $500 for a 30-minute session, however we also offer extended sessions as needed.

How do you photograph a surprise proposal without being noticed?

Typically we blend in with beachgoers by sitting in a beach chair with an umbrella or a book. Sometimes we also disguise the shoot as a family session, and then transition it into a proposal session without your significant other realizing it until you are down on one knee!

What is the best time to propose on the beach?

Golden hour is the best time for lighting, but we can accommodate any time on the beach (weather permitting).

What happens if it rains on the day of my proposal?

We will do our best to reschedule if weather interferes with the shoot. We will monitor the weather and adjust to a clear weather window if needed.

How far in advance should I book a proposal photographer?

At least a month before the planned proposal is ideal, but more notice is always best to make sure we have availability and time to plan the perfect proposal session.

Who will be taking our photos?

Dan Angelo is our lead couples photographer and specializes in proposals, couples, and family sessions. He has captured proposals on beaches all along the Jersey Shore and can’t wait to work with you to capture yours!
